2024 Season Summary

  • Massillon entered the season as the defending Division II state champion. 
  • The Tigers compiled a regular season mark of 8-2, including signature wins over NFL Academy-London, Buffalo’s Canisius, Lakewood St. Edward and Canton McKinley.  The NFL game was played at the Nike complex in Eugene, Oregon as part of the Nike Kickoff Classic.  A third straight win was posted over  2-time defending Division I state champion St. Edward.  The Tigers’ winning streak over McKinley was extended to nine games. The series record now stands at 77-53-5.
  • In the post-season the Massillon was seeded 3rd in Region 7 and advanced to the regional finals before being upset 14-7 by No. 1 seed Big Walnut.  The difference on the scoreboard was a second half kickoff return for a touchdown.
  • For the year, Ja’Meir Gamble tallied 126 points and rushed for 1,636 yards (4th all time).  Jalen Slaughter passed for 2,363 yards and 22 touchdowns.  Braylyn Toles caught 53 passes, nearly eclipsing the career receiving record.  Michael Wright Jr. ends his career as the all-time leader in sacks and tackles-for-loss.  Fourteen players were selected All-District; six were selected All-State.  Nate Moore is Massillon’s winningest head coach, with a record of 110-25.
  • The Tigers ended the season ranked No. 2 in the USA for all-time wins (959), two behind leader Valdosta, Georgia.
