Noteworthy Items: (1) Heavy underdog Massillon defeated unbeaten and No. 1 in the state Canton McKInley 20-15, knocking the Bulldogs from playoff qualification. The winning touchdown came in the final seconds of play when quarterback Greg Wood connected with Eddie Bell on a 34-yard pass completion. (2) Warren Harding, an earlier 19-6 loser to McKinley, won the state title.
