1970 Booster Club President

Wilbur Arnold

After a four year absence of state championships, the 1970 Tiger Football Booster Club was energized to support the promise of the dynamic Bob Commings in his 2nd year as Tiger head coach. They began projects immediately after the 1969 football banquet and painted the town orange and black at every opportunity.

Projects included new large signs for important games, painting the locker room, renovation of the booths on the roof of the west stands and new championship flags. During the season, new paint schemes were used on the playing field.

The most memorable project was the introduction of a live tiger mascot. Originally conceived as a permanent tiger, the project quickly resolved to having a new tiger cub every year, a project that endures. The original Tiger Crew was John Reusser, Don McFarren, Dave James, Bruce McFarren and Wilbur Arnold.

All this was intended to and did increase membership and involvement in Booster Club activities. The 1970 Tigers won the state championship after going 10-0-0 and were regarded as one of the great all time Tiger teams.
