James Hess
President Hess began the Booster Club’s year with the annual “Spring Stag” at the American Legion after the varsity/senior spring game on April 18th. Again many college and high school coaches attended as did several newspaper and radio men. The Junior executive committee of the Booster Club was in charge of the affair and drew much praise for the never ending food table they provided.
The 1952 Tigers went 10-0-0 and captured their fifth consecutive state championship. The Tigers closed the season with a 41–8 thrashing of Canton McKinley. This win was Coach Mather’s 100th coaching victory.
Athletic Director Fritz Crisler, and former head coach, from the University of Michigan was the principal speaker at the annual Washington High School football banquet. It was held in the WHS auditorium before a near capacity crowd. Supt L. J. Smith served as toastmaster. Coach Mather and WHS principal, I. W. Snyder, were program chairmen. Booster Club president Hess gave a short talk and introduced Emmett D. Graybill as the 1953 club president and Paul E. Paulson as the 1953 vice-president, the first VP in the club’s history.
