1935 found the Booster Club growing by leaps and bounds. Everyone wanted to join and anyone who had 25 cents or more to contribute was welcomed as a member.
With the increased membership, the club broadened its activities and spent more time publicizing the Tiger football team. Included among the club’s activities was the chartering of a special train to carry fans to the Niles game. The round trip fare was $1.25.
1935 was the first undefeated season since 1922 when Coach Dave Stewart’s Tigers also went 10–0. 1935 also was the first of six consecutive state titles for Coach Paul Brown.
Following the season, the Booster Club, under the able leadership of President Alvin “Dutch” Wampler, gave the team the biggest and finest banquet ever seen at that time. Some 600 people attended the event which was held in Republic Steel’s corporate dining room. Purdue University’s head coach, Noble Kizer, was principal speaker.
1935 truly was the beginning of Massillon’s magnificent and unique scholastic football tradition.
